According to students and parents, state governments decision to apply quota to seats surrendered to state resulted in a loss of seats from open category for post graduate medical courses. Students who have appeared for NEET – PG exam this year have decided to challenge this policy in the high court. In post graduate medical colleges 50% of total seats are reserved for all india quota. Many seats remain vaccant after the second round of counselling. These seats are reverted back to the state, however authorities apply state reservation before making them available for the centralised system. Due to this several seats from open category are lost to reservations. Students also complained that with increase in reservation very few seats are left for the open category. Earlier their was no policy to apply reservations to seats that are surrendered to them.
